The eyes are probably a person’s most expressive feature, and yet the effects of aging can sometimes make a person look tired or sad even when they are not. Blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery is the surgical correction of droopy eyelids to remove any excess skin or fat. In addition, blepharoplasty can also be performed below the eye to remove excess skin or puffiness, commonly referred to as “bags” under the eyes. To ensure a complete approach to facial rejuvenation, blepharoplasty is sometimes combined with other facial surgery procedures such as a brow lift. Our office will help you determine what procedures are best for your needs.
Are You a Candidate For Blepharoplasty?
If you have droopy eyelids and excessive skin (fat) around the eyes blepharoplasty may be the right procedure for you. The surgery is generally only performed on people aged 35 and up but sometimes those of a younger age that may have inherited unusually droopy eyelids can be eligible for the surgery.
Recovering From Eyelid Surgery
Blepharoplasty is a very common surgical procedure and the recovery time is usually about 7-10 days. Bandages will be placed over the eyes immediately following the surgery and your doctor will provide an ointment for use on the skin around your eyes. As with all surgical procedures you should pay attention to the post surgical instructions carefully and limit your physical activity for the next several days.
