Facelift Sacramento, CA

We can’t turn back time, but a facelift may be the closest we can get. A facelift is a surgical procedure that can help you look years younger by removing wrinkles and tightening sagging skin.

In the past, facelift surgeons only pulled back the skin, sometimes resulting in an overdone, “windswept” look. Today, surgeons know to also tighten the underlying muscles and tissue. As a result, facelifts now appear more natural-looking and typically last a decade or or longer. In the hands of a skilled surgeon like Dr. Kiener, patients benefit from a natural facial appearance with little visible evidence of surgery.

We will spend time with you in consultation, answering all your questions so that you can decide if a facelift is an intelligent choice for you.

Note that a facelift does not correct signs of aging above the mid-face. For example, suppose you have drooping eyebrows, forehead wrinkles, undereye bags, or sagging upper eyelids. In that case, you might want to have a brow lift or eyelid lift along with your facelift. In addition, performing other surgical or non-surgical procedures along with your facelift ensures a holistic approach to facial aesthetics.

What Can a Sacramento Facelift Accomplish?

A facelift will tighten the lower two-thirds of the face, as well as the neck, lifting sagging tissue in the jowls and jawline. It smooths deep wrinkles on the face and neck and improves the appearance of sunken cheeks.

How Does Roseville Facial Plastic Surgery Approach Facelift Surgery?

We perform facelifts as an outpatient procedure, either with the patient under general anesthesia or a local anesthetic with sedation. During the surgery, Dr. Kiener is careful to create incisions that will heal nearly invisibly.

Many patients only have signs of aging in the cheek area. In that case, Dr. Kiener can perform a cheek lift, which is a slightly abbreviated type of facelift. If you have sagging and bands in the neck area only, you may be a better candidate for a neck lift. A facelift is essentially a combination of a cheek lift and neck lift. Dr. Kiener will discuss all of these options with you during your consultation and recommend the technique that will help you look your best.

Dr. David J. Kiener, M.D.

There are a number of techniques that can be used to perform a facelift. No two patients are the same, and we evaluate each person to determine the best technique for the result they want.

After making the incisions, Dr. Kiener elevates the skin and tightens the underlying muscles. Then, he redrapes the skin and removes excess skin for a tighter, younger-looking face and neck. He carefully closes the incisions with small sutures.

What Is Recovery Like After a Sacramento Facelift?

You will need to take about two weeks off from work for recovery. Some swelling, bruising, and tenderness are natural after the surgery. Most sutures come out seven days after surgery, with the remaining sutures removed 10 days after the operation.

Most swelling and bruising will resolve by about two and a half weeks after surgery. You can keep swelling down to some degree by sleeping with your head elevated during your recovery period. We will prescribe antibiotics to prevent infection and pain medication to ease discomfort.

Avoid vigorous exercise and sports for about four weeks. Most women can wear makeup within about two weeks after surgery.

You will look your best about three months after the operation. However, we recommend having the procedure at least three months in advance if you have a major event planned, such as a child’s wedding.

You will follow up with us several times after your surgery to ensure that you are healing well and happy with your results.

Facelift, Cheek Lift, and Neck Lift FAQS | Roseville Facial Plastic Surgery

Am I a Good Candidate for a Facelift in Roseville?

Facelifts are for both men and women who have loose and saggy skin in the lower face and neck areas. Obvious signs of this are banding in the neck, laxity of the skin, or excess fat on the neck. Add to this the loss of the clear border along the jaw between face and neck, the presence of jowls, lines from the nose to the corners of the mouth, and deep lines between the corner of the mouth and the jaw, and you become an even better candidate for this surgery.

What Happens During Facelift, Cheek Lift, or Neck Lift Surgery in Roseville?

Your surgeon may choose from a couple of different techniques during facelift and neck lift surgery, depending on the cosmetic concern they’re correcting. Once the anesthesia takes effect, the plastic surgeon will usually make incisions for a facelift along the hairline and within the natural contours behind and in front of the ears. During the neck lift procedure, a surgeon will make approximately one-inch-long incisions beneath the chin and behind the ears.

The surgeon will sculpt or remove fat, reposition underlying tissue, and lift facial muscles. To conclude the procedure, the doctor will close the incisions with sutures or skin adhesives. They may use staples as an alternative, offering faster wound closure and similar results to sutures in terms of patient comfort, aesthetic outcome, and risk of complications.

How Long Will My Facelift Last?

A patient will always look better for the rest of their life after their facelift. However, gravity and normal aging will continue after the facelift has healed. In general, patients will develop enough laxity over the next seven to 10 years that it might become necessary to repeat the procedure. Keep in mind that the results will last longer on a younger patient.

Will a Facelift Elevate My Eyebrows?

A facelift only makes improvements from the upper cheeks down. Nothing above the cheekbones will change. However, you can opt to combine your facelift with procedures such as an eyelid lift or brow lift to make the upper third of your face look younger, more refreshed, and alert.
